Meet the Artist

Regina is a Miami-based quilter with over 20 years of experience and a lifelong passion for cutting and reassembling cloth. Inspired by her mother, who taught her to sew and crochet as a child, Regina feels it takes a sewing machine to make a house feel like a home.

Her work is deeply rooted in American quilting patterns and traditions, interwoven with the narrative of women's rights and history. She uses a combination of new and second-hand fabrics, including party clothes and hand-dyed and manipulated textiles, to create art quilts reflecting Miami's cultural diversity and landscape. Regina's vibrant palette, inspired by South Florida's nature and culture, weaves its own tale. Before sewing, she often practices shibori techniques to dye fabrics, using reactive and natural dyes derived from local materials such as clusia, bussida, annatto, logwood, and rust.

She builds her quilts through raw edge applique, a collage-like sewing technique that allows her to layer fabrics freely, play with transparencies, and edit as she builds the finished piece. Through this process, Regina explores various mediums, including paintings, drawings, sculptural installations, textile wall hangings, and functional objects.

Regina looks forward to guiding you as you develop your experimental process, pulling inspiration from Miami's gardens and tropical landscape. She sees quilting as a unique way to think about history, one that allows you to develop your own story from "what already exists in the world." She can't wait to hear your story and learn from you.

Explore Miami

Miami is known for its contemporary art scene, highlighted by Art Basel and Miami Art Week. With its lively nightlife, top-notch cuisine, and iconic Art Deco architecture, particularly along South Beach, Miami boasts a fusion of Latin American and Caribbean cultures. Regina's home studio, nestled between Coconut Grove and Coral Gables, is housed in a charming 1930s Art Deco building with a serene screened-in porch for outdoor work.

Surrounded by palm trees and lush vegetation, Regina cultivates plants for natural dyeing, thriving in Miami's tropical climate. While her home offers tranquility, the nearby Wynwood Walls murals and cafes in Little Haiti and Little Havana add to the city's dynamic atmosphere. Whether you're exploring the trendy boutiques of the Design District or savoring Cuban coffee in a quaint corner café, Miami's unique blend of cosmopolitan flair and laid-back charm will surely win your heart. As Regina says, the best things about Miami are the weather and the people.
