When I think of travel I think of all the things there is to learn, and all the amazing things that people around the world know and create. I would much rather have that concentrated time with a person than skimming the surface of a culture.I created a whistle jar, which was an ambitious goal. Technically, it is very detailed, and when I found out more about their anthropology I knew it was important to give a lot of thought and attention to the symbolism that I chose. Having experienced deep loss and grief in our family, I incorporated this experience into my artwork, so it has become imbued with a deep meaning to me. This is on top of the meaningful friendship that was also created in the studio. I will continue to create these instruments at home and have been encouraged by Hernan and Natalia to keep in touch if I need help or just to share my work with them!
