Meet the Artist

Louise is a textile artist and tapestry weaver who has immersed herself in this craft for over 40 years. She first discovered hand weaving in college many years ago, quickly realizing how perfectly it suited her ideas for self expression. She fell in love with the slow process, which allows room for intricate detail while exploring pattern and form and provides a true sense of mindfulness in an otherwise fast moving world. Using subtle color blends, she creates intricate designs which contain universal ideas on time and the joyful human journey through life.

Preferring an improvisational, intuitive process over a prescriptive one, she sees each piece as a thought provoking adventure through texture and color. Her sketch books provide the basis for design as she records memories of walks and imagery she encounters in the wilds of Scotland. From a simple pen drawn line, ideas evolve into the texture and warmth of wool and the contemplative element of pulling weft through warp using no tools other than her fingers. Weaving absorbs Louise’s mind completely, bringing a sense of fulfilment and joy she can’t live without.
