Meet the Artist

Sally is a ceramist and mixed media installation artist whose work brings a contemporary activation to the traditional Still Life genre. Her ceramics are heavily influenced by her interest in ecology and the natural world. Since moving from her native Australia to Paris, Sally has been working with porcelain paper clay, a very unique and versatile material with distinct qualities and properties. She loves its whiteness and translucence, which allow for a wide range of experimentation with texturing, layering and painting on the surface. VAWAA Includes:

  • Discovering unique properties of porcelain paper clays, which enables very fine (thin) objects to be produced.  
  • Learning traditional and experimental hand-building techniques. 
  • Crafting porcelain objects of your choice including plates, bowls, lighting forms, jewelry and sculpture.
  • Applying decorating techniques through texture, printing, and hand-painting. 
  • Mixing ceramic colorants using various mediums.
  • Glazing and firing.
  • Materials, access to tools, glazing service and firing are included in the fee.
  • Your handmade porcelain ceramic objects.

Stay at Sally's

Stay with Sally and her husband in their private home with a large garden, 5 minutes walk from the beach and local village. Accommodation is available for one person or a couple. Includes: a modern self-contained bungalow with a comfortable double sofa bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. Art studio on premises.

Explore Sète

Affectionately known as the "Venice of Languedoc," Sète is famed for its vibrant port, lined with colorful fishermen's houses, and its iconic canals that crisscross the town. The town's strong maritime heritage is evident in its cuisine, which is marked by an abundance of fresh seafood and delectable local specialties like "tielles" (octopus pies) and "bourride" (fish stew).

Sète also offers an array of vibrant cultural experiences, from its annual water jousting tournaments, a traditional sport unique to the region, to its numerous art galleries, museums, and festivals that celebrate local arts and traditions. The town's rich maritime heritage, colorful architecture, and breathtaking landscapes have inspired countless painters, photographers, and sculptors to capture its unique beauty in their works.

Additional Details

The work must be fired twice, before and after glazing. This process takes an additional week and artworks can be picked up or delivered after firing for an additional delivery/ postage fee. This VAWAA is available for a longer duration. If interested, let us know by how many days and we will do our best to accommodate you.
