Why should I go on a VAWAA?
Each VAWAA is an opportunity to explore, learn, and create. Go on a VAWAA to take a digital detox and reconnect with the physical world. Discover a new destination and create real local connections. Spend time inside a master artist’s studio making something with your hands. Learn a new creative skill. You can use a VAWAA to reconnect with creativity, have an authentic travel experience, hone a passion, get fresh inspiration, and so much more.
What level of artistic experience is required to go on a VAWAA? Do you have to be an artist?
VAWAA’s are for anyone who travels to learn, grow, and get inspired. Most importantly, you don’t have to be an artist to do a VAWAA. Each VAWAA is tailored to your skill level, so you don’t need any prior experience. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to learn.
What’s included in the price?
The price for each VAWAA includes:
An artist fee for the artist’s time and lessons
Exclusive access to the artist’s studio space
Use of the artist’s tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
Your own personal artwork to bring home
A small VAWAA fee that enables us to host this platform
Airfare, accommodation, and food are not included, unless specified.
What languages do you accommodate for VAWAA’s?
Most artists speak their native language, English, and/or another language. However, if you or the artist don’t speak the same language, don’t worry. Art is visual, so you can have a meaningful learning experience no matter what. If you’re really worried, there are plenty of resources you can use, particularly Google Translate. Just remember, each VAWAA is an adventure to learn and explore, so all you truly need is an open mind.
Why do VAWAA’s last multiple days? Will I have any free time to myself?
VAWAA’s last several days so you can truly study and learn an artform. Each artist has spent years mastering their craft, and it takes time and practice to learn. With that in mind, we know--there’s a lot of exploring to do outside of the studio. That’s why each VAWAA typically averages 4 hours in the studio per day, meaning the rest of your time is free to use as you wish.
Who are the VAWAA artists?
Each VAWAA artist is a master in their artform or craft. This means they’ve spent their lives practicing to become an expert, and this is their primary livelihood. Many of our artists are award-winning, widely recognized, and well known in their local communities. They’re also interested in opening their doors to travelers and sharing their stories.
I want to do a VAWAA during a specific date, but it's not listed on the artist page.
While we provide a number of available dates for each artist, there are also plenty of opportunities to do a VAWAA during other times. We’re always happy to accommodate your schedule as much as we can. Just let us know when you want to do a VAWAA by sending a booking request on the artist page and mentioning your travel dates. Then we’ll do our best to make it work.
I want do a VAWAA in X country, but you don’t have an artists there! Will you be adding any more artists?
We’re always working on adding new artists! You can stay up to date with new artist announcements by following us on Instagram or signing up for our email list. You can also contact us about doing a VAWAA in a country or art form not listed on the site. We will do our best to arrange a special VAWAA just for you.
What is your cancellation/refund policy?
For a full refund, cancel within 7 days of purchase.
You can receive a 50% refund or 75% credit towards a future VAWAA if you cancel at least 30 days before the start of your VAWAA.
You can reschedule at least 30 days before the start of your VAWAA for a $100 rescheduling fee. If you reschedule the studio session, the cancellation policy is based on the original purchase time and original start date of the experience.
Unfortunately if you cancel within 30 days of your studio session we are unable to provide a refund. We have this policy to respect the time and resources artists invest in preparing for your arrival.
You are subject to a refund, at VAWAAs discretion, if there’s a safety or health hazard that would adversely affect your participation in the studio session. The amount of any refund will depend on the nature of the issue.

Will I need a travel visa and/or travel insurance for my VAWAA?
Whether or not you need a visa will depend on your home country and the country you're visiting. You should do some research or inquire about a visa with your embassy. We also highly recommend all travelers purchase their own travel insurance before their trip.
What should I expect after my VAWAA booking is confirmed?
After your VAWAA booking is confirmed, you will receive an email with all the information you’ll need to prepare for your VAWAA, including travel and accommodation suggestions, transportation options, arriving at the artist’s studio, and more. At this time, you will also have the opportunity to communicate any specific projects or overarching goals you want to work on during your VAWAA. Because you are responsible for your own transportation to your VAWAA, you will need to book flights and accommodations and make other travel plans as necessary.
A week before your VAWAA, then again the day before your arrival, we’ll send an email reminding you about any pertinent information for your arrival. Then once you arrive, you can begin your one-of-a-kind VAWAA experience.
