Exploring Sounds to Make Music (3 part series)

Live from Uruguay

Making music is in our blood, yet many of us are afraid to express ourselves through music. In this exciting 3-part series with VAWAA artist and Uruguay's finest music producer Francisco, we will discover the joy of making music by exploring sounds, writing our own lyrics and making a collaborative song.

This series will be hosted over 3 consecutive Sundays and is limited to 10 participants. We highly encourage signing up early.

Francisco’s unique approach to music-making is a great way for beginners to overcome fear and for experienced musicians to learn new techniques and/or collaborate in a new way. There is no musical experience required, but those with musical talent are invited to bring their instruments.

What to Expect

  • June 6 // In the first session, we'll brainstorm ideas for the song. We'll explore conceptual, lyrical, rhythmic, harmonic or visual directions of making music, sing melodies and write lyrics.
  • June 13 // In the second session, we'll finalize lyrics and understand the recording procedure. There is no special equipment or software required. We'll use our computer and Soundtrap.com which is an easy and fun application to make music online. We'll sing (or hum) and Francisco will demonstrate how to create the first reference track.
  • June 20 // In the last session, we'll each get 20-30mins to record our voices and sounds under Francisco's guidance. You are welcome to stay and learn while others are recording or only join for your time slot.

After the last session, Francisco will take everyone's recording into post-production to create a final high quality 3-4 minute song. You'll be invited to a virtual premier to celebrate, listen and get your own copy of the song. We can expect our ubiquitous collective feelings from the pandemic to be reflected in this creation.

Here's an example and inspiration for this collaborative music making process.

If you are not in EST time zone, be sure to convert the time.

How to join

We'll be hosting this VAWAA Online on Zoom. We'll send the link and details to join via email 1 day and again 1 hour before it begins.

About Francisco

Francisco is one of Uruguay’s finest musician, sound artist, music and audiovisual producer. His works include a live solo quartet performed with videos of artists who collaborated on the album but are not physically present at the time of show; collaborative music and audiovisual productions carried out in different parts of the country with children in rural schools, inner cities, high school students of art schools or young emerging musicians; live crowd and immersive contemporary dance performances in public spaces; and experimental electronic audiovisual performances in festivals – all of which have toured across Europe, Central and South America. His multidisciplinary approach can be attributed to his background in architecture and visual communication combined with interests in collaborative works and technology.

Visit his artist page to learn more about his in-person VAWAA.

Sessions are ticketed to support artists, makers, and our small team. If you’re experiencing financial hardship, please do reach out. We may have a generous participant who has paid it forward and would ask that you pay the love forward by sharing online sessions with 3 new friends.
