Meet the Artist
Ariane is a mixed media and fiber artist, most recognized worldwide for contemporary felt-making. She is also a teacher, author of fiber art books, and a trained architect and graphic designer. She combines graphic, textile, and mixed media techniques to create works that have a nonconforming, bold, and eccentric style.
Her expertise is creating felt with an exceptional density that is firm, non-piling, very thin, and fluid for clothing or sculptural for hats. She is also a master of combining felt with embroidery, paint, transfer techniques, paper, fabrics, printing, metals, ceramics, and enamels.
For Ariane, everything made with love and passion is art - she creates her famous sculptural hats and pictorial art vests in the same way as she does home décor, fiber paintings, and sculptures. Everything is a pretext to explore the world of possibilities and beauty.
Being in her studio is like immersing into an adventure land. She invites your inner child to play and create intuitively and spontaneously. And when she is not in her studio, she loves sharing and rediscovering Paris, the city she adores.

Explore Ruillé sur Loir
After two decades in and aorund Paris, Ariane's studio is now located in the Loir Valley, a hidden gem neighboring the famous Loire Valley. While the Loire is known around the world for its grand châteaux, the Loir offers a more intimate landscape of vineyards, winding rivers, historic villages and peaceful countryside, inviting visitors to experience a slower and more authentic side of France.
The region is rich in history and craftsmanship. Medieval towns, lively markets, family-owned vineyards and remarkable troglodyte villages carved into limestone cliffs tell the story of a place where people have shaped the land with care and imagination for centuries. This close relationship between nature, culture and handmade traditions is deeply inspiring.
The beautiful landscape is a perfect framework for Ariane Marian's creativity. The vineyards, weathered stone walls, wild plants, riverbanks and the textures of the natural world are a never-ending source of inspiration. Time spent outdoors, walking, observing, collecting or simply slowing down, is often as important to the creative process as the time spent in the studio.
Guests are invited to experience this rhythm for themselves. Whether gathering inspiration on a walk, visiting a local market or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the surroundings, every moment becomes part of the artistic journey before returning to the studio to transform these impressions into personal works of art.
A VAWAA with Ariane is more than a creative workshop. It is an immersion into an artist's life and into a beautiful corner of France, where art, nature and local culture come together to inspire fresh perspectives, meaningful connections and the joy of creating.

I had an amazing time at Ariane’s studio in a beautiful area of Paris. The paper felt process and product were both very interesting. I enjoyed combining various art techniques and free motion stitching with paper felt. Ariane is very creative and inspiring!
