Meet the Artist

Eileen is a realistic oil painter with 15 years of experience. While she uses some techniques of the Old Masters, her paintings respond to the modern environment and current moment in contemporary art. Her work is intensely detailed that requires a lot of time and technical knowledge - she works from dark to light and builds images using classical methods as well as photographs. A lot of her inspiration comes from upstate New York where she grew up and spends a lot of time. If you ask about her favorite experience till date, she'll tell you about the time when she was sent by the US State Department to teach in Algeria.

VAWAA Includes:

  • Learning how to prepare a panel or canvas.
  • Translating a reference photo into a realistic oil painting.
  • Option to go for a painting day trip in upstate New York at Olana’s 250-acre naturalistic landscape, one of Frederic Church’s great works of art.
  • Personal tour of major museums and galleries in New York city depending on ongoing shows.
  • Visiting other local artist studios in her building.
  • Option to join Eileen in her regular yoga practice.
  • Your own oil painting/s.

Explore Brooklyn

Brooklyn is more relaxed and greener than most parts of Manhattan, but with dense culture, creative energy and excellent food. Brooklyn, in Eileen's opinion, is the center of art making in the world today. The density of artists is staggering, not to mention the infinite number of galleries and museums of Manhattan that serve as a constant flow of inspiration. New York City's energy is simply unique, with an unrivaled diversity in art, people, culture, and dining.

Additional Details

New York City is great year-round, particularly in the spring, summer and fall. It may be best to avoid visiting during the holidays as it gets very crowded (unless you have never been to New York), as well as from December to March if you are unfamiliar with winter in the Northeast of the US.

Depending on your project, this VAWAA is available for a longer duration, up to 21 days. Please ask when you send your booking request.

This VAWAA cannot be adapted to children because of the turpentine. Guests need to be able to go up and down the stairs to reach Eileen's studio (located on the third floor and not accessible by wheelchair). We recommend basic experience in drawing to get the most out of your studio session.
