Contemporary Dance Floor Work For Everyone

Live from Maastricht, The Netherlands

On Sunday, May 16th at 11AM EST, join VAWAA Artist and half-Bulgarian, half-Hungarian contemporary dancer, Miroljuba, to explore the world of contemporary dance through movements on the ground.

Floor work is used extensively in modern dance. Through this technique we find that the floor is a supportive friend, proving to be much softer and pleasant to move on than we imagined. Participants will learn how to feel lighter and more relaxed while moving smoothly across the floor, how to execute easy transitions between different body positions, and finally, how to connect them into a beautiful and joyful dance choreography.

All day long, we sit in the same positions. This can be a therapeutic and grounding whole body experience. Enjoy rooting down and connecting to the earth and the present moment while finding new ways to express the intangible and the ephemeral.

All levels are welcome and there is no prior experience required. There will be plenty of time to share, get feedback, and meet other participants from around the world.

If you are not in EST time zone, be sure to convert the time.

What you'll need

An empty wooden or linoleum floor space, around 3x3 meters or bigger.

Long-sleeved shirt, long pants, socks or bare feet.

How to join

We'll be hosting this VAWAA Online on Zoom. We'll send the link and details to join via email 1 day and again 30 mins before it begins.

About Miroljuba

Miroljuba is a contemporary dancer and performer who has trained in a variety of styles. While she focuses on contemporary dance, she loves mixing and matching elements of different dance styles and ways of movement in her work, such as urban dance, folk dance, and martial arts. Mira also enjoys working across art forms, often developing highly creative collaborations with musicians, circus performers, and more. In juxtaposing unlikely artistic combinations that center around her interest in movement and the human body, Mira produces work that is truly unique and unexpected.

Reviews

"I LOVED the whole experience. such fun and silly movements and at the same time i felt my body and spirit really connecting because of the simplicity of it. I can imagine how doing this daily can become completely meditative. I'm beyond grateful I got a glimpse at this art and that I was able to do it with Mira while she was in Belgium and myself being in Portland. Beautiful to share moments with others across the world. thank you!" – JoeI

"Loved learning something completely different" - Ashley

Sessions are ticketed to support artists, makers, and our small team. If you’re experiencing financial hardship, reach out. We may have a generous participant who has paid it forward and would ask that you pay the love forward by sharing online sessions with 3 new friends.
