Spontaneous Play and Creativity with Colombian Improv Pioneer

We’re excited to say "YES" to another interactive improv session with VAWAA Artist and pioneer of improv Gigio on Saturday, June 20, at 12 PM EDT.

Join us online with folks from around the world for dynamic exercises and refreshing games, which Gigio has adapted for us to interact virtually.

Theater improv is a game of spontaneity and collective creativity. It holds many rich life lessons to boost confidence, improve quicker reaction, help flexibility, and build camaraderie & teamwork. Improvisors learn to pay attention to their impulses at any given time. That’s why being present in the here and now — to our body, mind, and everything surrounding us — is important to be able to find and use what’s available to us. Of course, this is not only true for improvisation, but for life itself!

We'll learn, listen and practice the four basic stages of improvisation techniques: 1. training, 2. listening and response, 3. yes and adaptation, and 4. complicity and teamwork. We may start off as strangers on a screen, but we'll quickly build complicity and fun. Last time, our cheeks were sore from laughing together, so you can expect nothing less this time. The only requirement is willingness to play! Are you ready?

Joining us from a different time zone? Be sure to convert the time.

How to join

We'll be hosting this VAWAA Online on Zoom. You'll receive the link and details to join via email a few hours before it begins.

About Gigio

With a deep passion for theatrical improvisation, Gigio has been a pioneer of improv in Colombia, Peru and Puerto Rico. Rather than simply working with actors, he loves developing new artistic processes in the performing arts to help stimulate personal growth in anyone keen to try. In addition to improv, he also adores clowning. After all, as Gigio says, "The most noble art is to make others happy." Now he teaches and shares this passion with people from different parts of the world, helping others develop their own form of creative expression through performance.

Reviews

"Virtual improv with Gigio was so amazing, such a fun and playful way to start the weekend! Virtual format totally worked and Gigio selected the games thoughtfully so we were all able to play despite limitations. Wish we kept going, the hour flew by very quickly, and hope Gigio hosts another one!" - Lina

"Interactions with stranger was great" - Cristina

Sessions are ticketed to support artists, makers and our small team. If you’re experiencing financial hardship, please reach out. We may have a generous participant who has paid it forward and would ask that you pay the love forward by sharing online sessions with 3 new friends.
