Zines with Relief Prints and Stamps

Live from Tampa, USA

Join us for an exciting two part session with Master Printer Erika Schneider and accomplished book artist Beth Sheehan on how to cut personal imagery into easy cut linoleum that you can use to creative a compelling narrative in your own zine.

Session 1: Carving with Erika Schneider // February 27th 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM EST

Erika is a master printer in intaglio, lithography, relief printing, and monotype and has collaborated with artists such as Keith Haring, Roberto Enchurien Matta, Jean Dubuffet, Pierre Alechinsky, Beverly Pepper, Georg Baselitz, Chuck Close, Jonathan Horowitz and Jane Hammond.

In this session, Erika will show you how to cut and print your own relief stamps to produce artwork for your narrative. These relief stamps with your bold graphics and decorative elements can then be printed over and over, allowing you to make multiple copies of your zine.

Session 2: Binding with Beth Sheehan // March 6th 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM EST

Beth Sheehan, is an accomplished book artist whose artwork investigates scientific ideas of memory and perception to explore her own lack of episodic memory often through the mediums of papermaking, printmaking, and book art. Internationally exhibited, her works are held in several public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Center for Book Arts, and the San Francisco Public Library.

Zine making is a historically anti-authoritarian craft. Making visually dynamic booklets, and circulating them independently, allowed people the space to share their passions, articulate ideas and tell their own stories. Its DIY spirit was utilised by the Punk movements in the 70s and 80s and is still alive today. The act of zine-making continues to empower and encourage creative freedom of thought and expression.

In this session, Beth will demonstrate two different folding techniques to create books. Using the relief stamps made in Session 1, you'll be well on your way to creating your own library of zines.

"Great session with Erika. Neat to see her studio. Impressive. She did a nice job educating me on what monotype is all about with endless options and ease of creating at home. Only thing that would make it better would be to be at her studio learning side by side." - Lisa

"I especially liked her quick and exceptional responses to the questions and her ability to improvise the process of chine colle and her various tools. I learned a great deal!" - Amy
