I stumbled upon VAWAA while doing an artist residency in Oaxaca! I was studying with a master silversmith in the area and that process ignited a desire to spend focused periods of time learning from artisans who have made their craft into a way of life. It’s something I aspire to do myself, but haven’t quite figured out how to make the transition from a corporate 9-5. I figured there’s no better way to learn how to do that than by example. I’ve always wanted mentorship, but didn’t know where to meet people who were the living embodiment of the specific future I envisioned. VAWAA makes that possible!! It’s like the yellow pages for people you might never discover elsewhere and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have found it! I’m already looking forward to my next VAWAA and I think it’s a wonderful, enriching way to move beyond tourism to travel. Slowing down and actually spending time living and learning in a foreign place.
