Last spring, I was both surprised and so blessed to receive a teaching prize here in Massachusetts, and the prize came with a heft of money to be used for travel or education. I had heard of VAWAA in passing just last summer, and I perused the website. When I found a workshop in Scotland - with a bookbinder, no less! - I was intrigued and excited. I felt that VAWAA celebrated both education and travel, and I wanted to be part of it. 

I feel blessed to have had the opportunity not only to travel and learn about bookbinding, but to have been able to introduce Gillian to my family, and to witness and be part of such welcome within that toasty, tea-infused workshop in Glasgow. Gillian is a source of great knowledge, and she shared so much with us: in addition to presenting specific bookbinding tasks and tools, she shared stories of Scotland and her past travels, suggestions about activities in Glasgow and our next destination, delicious treats that were definitely all consumed by the end of the three days.
