I went on a VAWAA because I wanted something more low key than a full on artist residency. I also wanted to get guidance and learn to hone my craft from an artist. I wanted to dedicate time to making art and feeling more inspired and creative. This VAWAA helped me get out of a creative rut that I’ve been feeling. I was able to learn new skills in linocut and create several pieces of work in the week. I feel more empowered and inspired to do this when I get back home. The experience also made me think about what it means to do art full time, the environment for it, and how important it is to dedicate time to art on a more regular basis.
