I spend a lot of my life working, making decisions and using my brain. I wanted a few days where I could get out of my head and into a different way of expressing myself.
I was drawn to Michelle because of the freedom and experimentation in her work—the scale, color and marks—and because I wanted to reconnect with my own creative flow.
I also wanted somewhere close enough to New York that I could disappear for a few days without making a huge trip out of it. I was craving sun, grass, movement, simple seasonal food and time to make things. Sharon Springs gave me exactly that.
I discovered a much larger creative range in myself than I knew was there. In three days I found myself making things I would never have imagined making on my own. More than anything, the experience reminded me how much possibility can open up when someone pushes you beyond the ways you already know how to create. I want to carry that freedom and curiosity into both my creative practice and the rest of my life.
