The Experience

Spend 5 days (4 nights) in the historic town of Agüimes, the ideal location to experience all the charms of Gran Canaria, from both its rural and mountainous landscapes. We’ll sojourn in a beautiful traditional Canarian house in a quiet village away from the touristic resorts. Early mornings and evenings will be devoted to photographing the island in best possible light conditions, which will look especially beautiful after the winter rains. Guided by Tomás, who was raised there, and knows the island like the back of his hand, you’ll learn both the technical and theoretical aspects of photography. We will dedicate middays to select and process the photos, take a nap or venture into the village if you wish. Late evenings we will review the work together with a glass of wine followed by dinner and fun times. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival will be taking place that week, so there will be plenty of possibilities to join and photograph the celebrations.

Required: A photo camera and a good predisposition to having fun while exploring a magical island and sharing an unforgettable experience together.

Meet Master Photographer Tomás

Tomas is a professional photographer based in the magical archipelagos of Spain’s Canary Islands, in Gran Canaria, off northwestern Africa. He lived in Berlin for a few years but the beauty of the island and its people brought him back. There’s perfect light to take pictures all year round, especially winter. Now, he starts his day early morning to capture diverse landscapes of the island - black lava, white sand beaches, forests and mountains. If it’s not nature, he shoots portraits, people, places they live in or abstracts. Regardless of the subject, he focuses on finding metaphors to create a sense of mystery in his photographs. It’s this keen sense of observation along with his technical abilities that he loves sharing with others. His motto “the more you share, the more you receive.”

Magic of Gran Canaria

When you think of Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands (Spain), imagine sun, the sea coming from everywhere and carnival music zigzagging along the streets at this time of the year. The contrasting views extend into its natural landscape. Black lava rocks dot smooth white beaches. Waves of golden sand dunes spread out under a sheet of blue sky. But that’s not all: dense forests, dramatic valleys, captivating geysers, charming villages. These contradictory surroundings offer fantastic settings for beginners and experts to test out and refine their photography skills.
