I am a weaver, curious about traditional techniques and textile tools. I'm also very interested in Greek life and culture. This was a perfect combination of my interests. I hoped to learn a new weaving technique and gain some exposure to Greek weaving in general. The trip wildly exceeded my expectations. Also, if it is of help to others considering such a trip, I am a 70-year-old woman and was by myself while I was in Rethymno (my daughter joined me when the class was done and we traveled around Crete). This particular class was perfect for a solo woman traveller.

My husband has a Greek background and we want to spend more time there. This trip inspired me to learn Greek (I know I tiny bit, but now want to become fluent) and to dive deeper in Greek weaving traditions. Most importantly, though, I am extremely excited to continue weaving triopatitiro at home. I weave many of my own clothes and cannot wait to design my own triopatitiro patterns to incorporate into my clothing.
