Meet the Artist

Kristine and Colin create artworks in clay, bronze, and oil painting that highlight the beauty of the human form. From the miniature to the monumental, their fired clay and bronze figurative sculptures often integrate text and motifs to invite conversation and story-telling.

Colin’s early artistic inclinations were nurtured by his grandmother, renowned sculptor Una Hanbury, who set aside a corner of her studio for him. Later, Una introduced Colin to an old Greek icon painter, Chrisotomos Chakos, who regaled him with tales of the Greek myths while they sculpted together. The impact of these two early influences can still be seen in his work today.

Kristine followed in the footsteps of her Great Uncle, sculptor Uno John Palokangas, and knew that this will be her life’s work the day she set foot in a clay studio. In their early years, Kristine and Colin apprenticed with numerous master artists, including metal sculpture, bronze sculpture, pottery, printmaking, and glass blowing. They worked in bronze casting foundries and are experienced in all parts of the casting process. Many years down the road, these partners in life and art, have created public monuments, museum installations, and commission work for institutions around the country.

Their traditional adobe home and studio, nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Santa Fe, suits their “all art, all the time” sensibilities. As Kristine says “Creatives are some of the most powerful people in the universe. We design the world around us that we all exist within.” Surrounded by their menagerie of birds and beasts, you’ll experience the enthusiasm of their art and develop your creative nature.
