Meet the Artist
Linnea is a master silk painter who specializes in the Serti technique of "fencing" using water-based resists. A working artist for 30 years, she started painting on silk over 15 years ago. Her years of experience working with art publishers to draw detailed scenes laid the foundation for her ornate silk paintings. She incorporates animals, architecture, and unique city scenes in her work, in addition to the more traditional floral designs. She has lived on a horse farm, traveled to the Peruvian Amazon 7 times and enjoys volunteering for the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
VAWAA Includes:
- A trip to Beacon or the Hudson Valley to gather inspiration and sketch.
- Preparing the final silk for painting. Stretching, applying the resist and painting.
- Practicing with the Serti technique: applying a resist to paint on silk.
- Practicing the use of salt to see how it changes the paint.
- Materials including silk, resist, tools, paint, sketch book.
